The BRICS is a group of five countries that have been meeting since 2011 in annual summits: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
The original acronym “BRIC” was coined in 2001 by Goldman Sachs economist Jim O’Neill to describe the rapidly growing economies that would collectively dominate the global economy by 2050.
